Within 14 days, a full refund
The one-sentence version: within 14 days of purchase, say the word and you get a full refund, no reason required. The details follow.

The Chinese version at tacet.ink/refund is the authoritative text of this policy. This English translation is provided for convenience; in any conflict between the two, the Chinese version prevails.
Refund conditions
Your data after a refund
Your account returns to the free plan: the 100-entry cloud backup limit is restored, the share expiry cap returns to 7 days (count 100 to 20), and images per entry return to 5. Existing backups beyond 100 entries are kept on the server, not deleted, but new cloud backups pause (local writing and full export are entirely unaffected); we recommend completing a full export in the app within 30 days after the refund, then deciding for yourself whether to delete the account. We will never delete a single entry because of a refund.
When refunds do not apply
After the 14 days, refunds are not automatic, but if you are in difficulty please still write to us and we will handle each case in good faith. Repeated refund abuse (buying and refunding in cycles to avoid paying) may lead us to decline further purchases. The free plan never involves payment, so there is nothing to refund.
A lost passphrase: content is end-to-end encrypted with your passphrase; once it is lost, recovery is impossible by design (see the threat model). This is a structural consequence of the encryption, not a service failure. The no-reason full refund still applies within 14 days of purchase; after that, a lost passphrase is by itself not grounds for a refund.
Billing statement name
The charge on your card or bank statement shows POLAR or Polar, not Tacet (Polar is the Merchant of Record collecting the payment). If you see the charge two months later and cannot place it, check this explanation and your Polar receipt first before considering a dispute, to avoid an unnecessary chargeback process.
Price and taxes
The annual price shown on the page is before tax. As Merchant of Record, Polar adds VAT/sales tax under your local tax rules; the final amount is calculated and shown by Polar at checkout based on your location, and buyers in the EU and some other regions will see a total higher than the listed price.
At expiry
The annual pass is a one-time purchase and does not auto-renew, so there is no "stop renewal" step: at expiry the account naturally returns to the free plan (during the following 90-day grace period cloud backups are read-only and fully exportable; a new purchase restores normal access). The paid period remains active until it ends. Expiry is not a refund; the two are independent.
